It’s been an embarrassingly long time since we last posted on here. We are going to try to correct that neglect, but don’t hold us to it, please. Meantime… new year, new jams! That’s right, as both Brooklyn Vegan and New Noise in France so kindly announced on our behalf on Friday, the rock group known as SAVAK (not to be confused with the LA-based industrial DJ of the same name) has a collection of songs called Flavors Of Paradise that will be released March 1, 2024 on our label, Peculiar Works, in conjunction with our longtime friends/conspirators/neighborhood suds enthusiasts over at Ernest Jenning Record Co.
[Side EJRC note: they have been quietly ushering some serious music into the world. Among others, do not miss King Khan, Beauty Pill, The Van Pelt, and The Most Distant Object.]
What does this mean? It means there’s a teaser tune (Jaws refers to it as “Leash Biter” and who are we to argue? Woof woof.) with the distinct hope that it will entice some folks to take money from their bank account and transfer it into ours. We are not very good at this type of sleight of hand maneuvering, so we tend to just put it out there and see what happens. However, if you are so inclined, we thank you in advance.
This is our 6th LP and we decided to do something different. Instead of recording in our practice space or going into our pal Geoff’s studio in Greenwich Village, we met up in Chicago in June and spent three, very productive days with Matthew Barnhart at Electrical Audio. We capped it off with a fun show at the Empty Bottle with the national treasures that are Tim Midyett and Doug McCombs. Speaking of which, Tim’s group Mint Mile has a mind-blowing new album coming out next month and Doug’s album with Black Duck from last summer is still on heavy rotation at SAVAK HQ.
Anyway, last thing to share right now is that the artwork on our new album comes from a series of images made by our pal Rich Jacobs. You can check out his work as an artist, curator, and all-around good dude about town on his IG account, which is well worth following, if you don’t already.
We have more to post soon. Possibly too much, but nothing you can’t easily scroll past. Nonetheless, quickly before signing off, here are our next batch of East Coast shows…
